Have you ever been hangar flying with your buddies, leaned on a wing tip and it crumbled? Yeah, we have to and luckily it was our plane we did it on. So after a few choice expletives, we tried to figure out why it happened. Well, it turns out the manufacturer used a PVC plastic to construct its exterior fairings. This is great unless you subject them to heat, cold, sun, or rain. Kinda like what an airplane operates in. This material was not meant for this type of environment. So we figured we could do better…and we did.

All Met-Co-Aire products are constructed of hand laid up, aircraft grade fiberglass in a polyester resin matrix. They come covered with a white gel-coat that serves as a primer for painting. Our replacement parts come with full FAA approval and are guaranteed not to crack, providing years of quality service on your airplane.

Though Piper did not use the proper material, their design engineering was right on. They used the Hoerner wing tip for these performance aircraft and they did it well. Someone might try to improve the design, but how? On the tapered wing platform the Hoerner tip has proven itself to be the most effective performer. We should know, we have been promoting the Hoerner wing tip for over forty years and finally the major manufacturers and the homebuilders are realizing the benefits.
